‘No ways!’ Rasta’s portrait of Presley disappoints again

The renowned local street artist, Rasta, has once again become a trending topic on social media airwaves – this time for another one of his portraits, which failed to make the cut. 

Known for having painted portraits of several iconic figures in the South African landscape, Lebani Sirenje has earned himself quite a reputation in the entertainment industry. Throughout his last few years in the spotlight, he has been known for paying tribute to heroes like Siya Kolisi, the late archbishop Desmond Tutu, as well as fallen legends like the rapper Riky Rick.

While much of his work is created with the purest intent, the execution of the final product has often left many scratching their heads. 

His recent painting of the late Tsotsi actor, Presley Chweneyaga, appeared to be no different.  

The actor and Oscar award winner passed away on May 27th, after suffering sudden respiratory complications. The news of his death has sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry, with close friends and colleagues sharing tribute messages in remembrance of the man he was. 

This past weekend, his loved ones found themselves saying farewell to the late icon in the performing arts. Meanwhile, Rasta saw this as the perfect time to unveil a brand new painting in honour of Presley’s legacy. 

Taking to social media, he wrote: 

“As we gathered the past weekend to celebrate the life of Presley Chweneyagaw, Rasta the Artist’s live painting serves as a poignant reminder of his impact.” 

Social media users later gathered to share their thoughts.
