Your guide to handling online negativity like a pro

by Akhona Ndlela

Although the internet can be a great tool for growth, connection, and sharing, it’s not always a good place. Online negativity can strike hard, whether it takes the form of a critical review, a harsh comment, or an inappropriate viewpoint.

The important thing that you need to do is to stay on course.

You don’t have to shut down or clap back. You can deal with online criticism in a composed, self-assured manner that preserves your peace of mind if you have the correct attitude and mindset toward things that are not worth your attention.

NordPass states that the online world can be challenging. On the one hand, it is the most incredible thing ever: limitless information, instant communication, on-demand entertainment, shopping without ever leaving the comforts of home, and much more.

However, you are constantly coming across negative content, and a lot of trolls are just waiting to ruin your day. There are some strategies to help you deal with negativity on the internet every day, the above further adds.

Here’s how to respond-or not respond-like a pro, maintain composure, and establish boundaries.

According to OliviaLucieBlake.com, when someone treats you badly online, it usually speaks more about them than it does about you. They might need someone to vent their feelings of insecurity. Ignoring or retorting can exacerbate the situation. Delete the message and go on, if you can. Avoiding those who spread hate and negativity is crucial. You can gain control over your online life by blocking and unfollowing the hater. Additionally, blocking someone can make it more enjoyable for them.

Talktoangel.com suggests practising mindfulness, establishing boundaries, talking to yourself positively, asking for help from people you can trust, taking care of yourself, learn about online safety, and keeping an optimistic outlook to deal with unfavourable remarks you may encounter online. To keep perspective and safeguard your mental health, participate in encouraging online communities and consume content that makes you feel good.
