The late multi-award-winning singer and songwriter, Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkuthukana, remains one of the most celebrated artists, after a group of her devoted fans, known as Zahara Army, took time to clean her grave.

This heart-warming initiative was shared on TikTok, where it amassed over half a million views and over 20,000 likes. The Zahara Army can be seen on the video trimming the grass, polishing the headstone on Zahara and her sister’s grave, who is Nomonde Mkutukana, who passed away in a hospital in 2021 after she was hit by a taxi in East London.

Zahara passed away in December 2023 in hospital, allegedly due to liver complications. She was laid to rest next to her sister in her home village, Phumlani, Eastern Cape.

TikTok users took to the comment section to weigh in.

One user said, “I can’t believe she died just like that.”

Another one said: “The way I loved Zahara, sometimes I wonder why she had to go so early, love from Botswana.”

While another one said: “It’s like you’re putting salt in the wound. A fan who can’t heal is always playing her music and crying.”

Zahara first rose to fame in 2011 when she released her first album titled Loliwe, solidifying her space in the music industry. She has also released chart-toppers such as Phendula, Ndiza, Destiny, Lengoma and many others, which subsequently won her multiple awards.
