At just 19 years old, Inga Mkalali is making waves across South Africa’s cultural and entertainment landscape—armed with nothing but determination, talent, and a deep sense of purpose.
The Bachelor of Education student at Walter Sisulu University was recently crowned the Public Choice winner for Mr Teen Heritage South Africa 2025, a title that reflects far more than popularity—it reflects passion, pride, and purpose.
Born and raised in the small Eastern Cape village of Sihlabeni in Ngqamakwe, Inga is the second of four siblings in the Mkalali family. From humble beginnings, he has risen to become not only a celebrated pageant titleholder but also a radio and TV presenter, actor, model, storyteller, voice-over artist, and youth activist.
He currently presents The Art Centre Show on Mpuma Kapa TV and co-hosts Mthatha Youth Commitment on UCR FM. His journey is the blueprint of dreams realised against all odds.
Inga recently sat down with BONA, to share insight about his achievements.
“Heritage, to me, is about embracing your culture unapologetically,” he said. “It’s the inheritance left by those who came before us.” This belief fuels his mission to represent his rural community with pride and to inspire other young people, especially those from remote areas, that their dreams are valid.”
Despite a jam-packed schedule that includes studying Mathematics, Science, and Technology at WSU and pursuing a National N Diploma in Public Relations through a private college, Inga finds time to give back through charity work and empowerment initiatives. He recently collaborated with Abanebhongo Persons with Disabilities NPO and is currently planning skills workshops aimed at youth in rural areas.

What sets him apart in the pageant world is not just his charisma, but his vision to use modelling as a platform for change. “For me, modelling is not about glitz and glamour. It’s about being the voice of the voiceless and making a real difference in my community.” he shared
Inga’s track record speaks volumes. He has held numerous titles, including Mr Inako Foundation King 2023, Mr Indoni Cultural SA Xhosa King 2024/25, Mr BCMM 2024, and is a current finalist for Mr Inkciyo 2025.
His acting chops were recently on display in Samthing Soweto’s mini drama documentary, recorded at SABC’s uKhozi FM studios, and he’s already eyeing international runways with New York Fashion Week on his vision board.
With nominations under his belt for Best Gospel Radio Presenter and Best Male Model at prestigious youth awards, Inga is not just chasing dreams—he’s living them. However, for him, the most treasured crown isn’t the one on his head. “The most precious crown I could ever wear is in my heart. “It’s about the impact I make, not the title I hold,” he said.
His message to the youth? “Know yourself, know where you come from, and where you’re going. Keep your eyes on the ball, stay focused, and work hard. Nothing is impossible.”
From Sihlabeni to the national stage—and soon, the global spotlight—Inga is proving that roots don’t limit you; they anchor you as you rise.
