Lasizwe reflects on lonely Mother’s Day, ‘That pain doesn’t go away’

by Sergio Miller

For many, Mother’s Day is a day filled with love and appreciation as husbands and children around the world make the most of the opportunity to show just how much they value and honour the role of the maternal figures of their lives.

While this has been the case for most people over the weekend, for others, it was a painful reminder that their biggest comforter is no longer around.

Media personality and content creator Lasizwe Dambuza recently took to Instagram expressing just how painful it is not having his mother around. His mom, Lindiwe, passed away in 2016 after being diagnosed with a heart condition.

Taking to the social media platform, he reflected on just how much her absence on the day had affected him.

“Shout out to ‘us’ who made it through today,” he wrote. “A day that’s supposed to be celebratory towards one woman who gave birth to ‘us’ but for ‘us’ today is just a painful reminder that our ‘mothers’ are no longer with us in the flesh.”

He continued, “Life really did a number on me when my mother passed on. It’s painful, and that pain just doesn’t go away. You just learn to live with it.”

Meanwhile, the day was not just a sad one for him, but also for June Steenkamp, mother to the late Reeva.

In a post, she wrote: “Wishing all the mothers a very happy and blessed Mother’s Day. I send extra love to the mothers who are having a difficult day because their children are no longer with them. I share your pain and sadness and pray that your memories give some form of comfort. The joy of being a mother lasts forever.”
