For ten seasons, Come Dine With Me South Africa has delivered an irresistible mix of wild menus and more kitchen calamities than we can count — and we’ve loved every minute of it. Over the years, we’ve seen hopeful home chefs whip up everything from Samaki wa Kupaka to sushi fondue, with varying degrees of success (and seasoning).
As it celebrates its 10th season, airing on BBC Lifestyle (DStv 174) Wednesdays at 8pm, Come Dine With Me SA remains a deliciously unpredictable ride. This show has reminded us why we never trust a dinner party with strangers, but always tune in for the laughs. Here are some of the funniest moments of the show in past seasons!
Shut the front door! – Season 2 ep3
Puleng Mash-Spies became an overnight icon with her unforgettable mispronunciations (“strawbet” sorbet, anyone?), her R15,000 Christian Louboutin heels, and her luxury-loving dog Hermes. Her traditional umleqwa and inyama yegusha brought true African soul to the table. At the same time, her fellow diners explored everything from Mozambican prawns to Mexican enchiladas.
Paella from the floor! – Season 3 ep 12
The Cape Town finale was gourmet chaos at its finest. Between Tony Onwood’s Saigon salmon surprise and Noel Studti’s paella-gone-wrong. . The episodes food was bold, the personalities bolder having viewers howling and hosts rethinking their seasoning choices.
All kinds of flavour – Season 4 ep 3
Durban brought the flavour and the flames. The night was culinary fireworks, from Rourke McArthur’s basil-brie creations to Sanesh Bhengu’s spicy peri-peri feast. But the real drama was an awkward dessert interrogation that left the table wondering, “What kind of caramels are there?”
Who put a worm in my starter? – Season 2 ep6
In one of the most infamous moments in the show’s history, a worm mysteriously turned up in Martin Evans’ starter — and fingers pointed fast. Whether sabotage or seafood surprise, it was peak Come Dine With Me South Africa drama that had everyone talking.
Now, in its milestone season, Come Dine With Me South Africa is hotter than ever. The mix of offbeat menus, table talk, and over-the-top personalities is back, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
