It seems like the historical traditional wedding set to take place in the Zulu Kingdom on Sunday, the 26th of January faces different problems each day.
The Zulu Monarch, Misuzulu Ka Zwelithini who is a baptised member of Nazareth Baptist Church, has planned to marry Nomzamo Myeni as his third wife. It was announced that the King will first perform Umkhehlo, a traditional ceremony where two families exchange vows at the Queen’s house in Jozini on the 24th of January.
However, the news publication Daily Sun reported that the members of the King’s church have raised their concerns surrounding King Misuzulu’s wedding.
The concerns revealed that a baptised member of the church is not allowed to hold personal ceremonies in January, as they reserve this month solely for the holy pilgrimage. The members revealed to the publication that the Shembe Church members of Ebuhleni are in eKhenama mountain at Ndwedwe in KwaZulu Natal for the holy pilgrimage for the whole of January, since the 5th.
Therefore, according to reports, the preparations for the traditional wedding of the Zulu emperor who was baptised in June last year, are seen as reportedly going against the church rules.
Speaking to the publication, one member said: The King is a baptised member of the church, and baptised members obey all rules of the church. Many church members are questioning the King’s wedding timing because he was baptised by our leader, Inkosi Unyazilwezulu, last year.”
Speaking to EWN on the matter of the court interdict pursued by the first wife Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela Zulu, cultural expert, Professor Musa Zulu said: “The King being married, cannot take a second wife, even by customary law. They can, however, have the event, it’s just that it will be impossible to register that marriage without divorcing the first wife, so the legal system at the moment favours kaMayisela.”
