Controversial blogger, Musa Khawula has reportedly been arrested and faces a charge of contravention of the Cyber Crime Act.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed to news publication Sunday World that Musa was arrested recently.

“Police can confirm that the suspect was arrested in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him. He is expected to appear before the Newcastle Magistrates Court, where the matter will be transferred to Gauteng. He is facing a charge of contravention of the Cyber Crime Act,” said Mavela.

Speaking to the above news publication, Ze Nxumalo and his wife, Tamryn Green-Nxumalo’s lawyer Vanessa Fernihough said that Musa has been arrested for a separate charge from the defamation case in which he was ordered to take down defamatory statements he had made on X (formally know as Twitter) and ordered to apologise. She said the recent warrant of arrest is for a second charge that Musa has avoided for some time.

An X user took to their account to share what seems like a court register where Musa’s name was at the bottom alongside his charge.

In July, the self-proclaimed ‘pope of pop culture’ was behind bars for 90 days for contempt of court following his refusal to comply with a defamation verdict obtained by ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula’s wife Nozuko, which barred him from posting corruption allegations about her on X.
