In our daily lives, receding gums can be difficult, causing discomfort and sensitivity in our teeth.

However, by being aware of the reasons and taking easy precautions, you may safeguard your gums and avoid suffering in the future.

Causes of receding gums

According to Medical News Today, “Receding gums refer to when gums wear away or become pushed back, exposing the roots of the teeth. Receding gums become a health concern, leaving the teeth at risk of decay, infection, and loss.”

The above health information publication also states that individuals may be able to stop the progression of gum recession if they begin treatment early.

Although receding gums are a common issue, many individuals are unaware of it until a later stage when symptoms start to appear, further mentioned by the practice.

Preventative measures

WebMD claims, “The best way to prevent gum recession is to take good care of your mouth. Brush and floss your teeth every day and see your dentist or periodontist at least twice a year, or as recommended.”

Gum recession can also be avoided in other ways, such as giving up smoking if you do as “tobacco users are more likely to have sticky plaque on their teeth that is difficult to remove and can cause gum recession.”

The above website further suggests having a nutritious and well-balanced diet and keeping an eye out for any oral changes, according to the health source mentioned above.

Dentaly, an oral health practice suggests using an electric toothbrush with a gum care head, massaging your gums frequently, and using fluoride-containing toothpaste.
