Facebook hitmaker DJ Cleo has been extremely critical of influencers who have taken over the art of DJing because of their massive social media following.
The award-winning musician and Radio 2000 DJ recently appeared on MacG’s Podcast and Chill where the host, Sol, asked about his thoughts on the emergence of female DJs in the industry – as well as the rise of influencers joining in the fun.

Responding to the question, Cleo said that the law allows an individual to have freedom of trade, highlighting that they can tap into anything they are passionate about.
However, he later shared how he was not comfortable with the idea that just anyone can be a DJ these days.
“I saw something on social media, and someone said it nicely. They said, ‘No talent, is the new talent.’”
“I’m not talking about female DJs, even in acting, they now go for influencers, and radio — just because you have a big following,” explained Cleo.
“I know many DJs, many … and generally the main, the general conscientious among us as male DJs are getting outbooked by the influencers.”

He added that he believes that the main reason for this happening is due to the barrier for entry into the art of DJing being extremely low, allowing any person to become an overnight DJ.
