American rapper Cardi B took to X (formerly known as Twitter) spaces to defend award-winning singer Tyla after comments circulated online of her being an ‘entitled uppity African.’
Since becoming an international star, Tyla has received backlash not only from local fans but also on a global scale for numerous things.
Her recent backlash was due to her not being able to hold her VMA Award for the Best Afrobeats category which led to people saying that she asked musician Halle Baliey to hold it for her.
Taking to her X spaces, a platform that allows people to host discussions on the app, Cardi B stopped at nothing to defend Tyla.
She said, “She asked Lil Nas X, but you guys are trying to make it seem like it’s rude for her to ask another artist to hold her award as if she was asking for help. I love Halle, but she didn’t even ask her to hold her award; she asked Lil Nas X, a man!”
After the VMA drama, YouTuber Armon Wiggins took to his socials where he referred to Tyla as an “uppity African”, a term that alludes that the person is entitled.

The Bodak Yellow hitmaker further explained that the internet was becoming unbearable for bullying Tyla as she’s just 22 years old and trying to adjust to the American lifestyle as a musician.
“Tyla wishes she never won that f**ken VMA award. If she had known it would have brought so much hate, so much criticism. I bet she was crying that night,” she adds.
Ladies should stick together, I am proud of Cardi B
