Somizi reacts to scholar’s graveyard performance – ‘Why ningalali emakhaya’

by Samantha Mochele

South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo has found himself in fits of laughter after watching a hilarious video featuring a school child singing in a graveyard.

The video, originally shared by TikTok user @kwanaka, which has quickly gone viral, showcases the pupil performing a playful song that humorously asks, “Why ningalali emakhaya!'(Why are you not sleeping at your home?)

The scene takes an unexpectedly funny twist when a bold voice from the background chimes in with a cheeky reply: “Asifuni kulala emakhaya”(No, we don’t want to sleep at home!) The candid response has tickled viewers across social media, and Somizi is no exception.

Somizi took to Instagram to share his reaction to the video. In his stitched video post, he attempts to maintain a straight face but ultimately fails, bursting into laughter.

Ending the video with a chuckle, Somizi adds, “Labantwana!”(Ey, these kids.)

The video has sparked mixed reactions online. While many find the interaction between the child and the replying voice funny, others view it as disrespectful due to its setting in a graveyard. The question posed by the child, though amusing to some, has been considered sensitive by others, prompting a variety of responses in the comments.

Despite the divided opinions, the video has brought joy to many.

One user defended the video saying, “Guys stop being angry at him. It’s not like bazomuzwa(they will hear) and stuff.”

Another found the moment personally amusing and said, “I just saw my dad behind you.”

One user said (with laughing emojis), “Those who watched it more than 20 times let’s gather here.”
