Skincare hacks you should stay away from

The internet harbours a lot of information and hacks for people wanting to solve certain skincare problems, and while some hacks work it’s important to stay away from skincare hacks that can potentially ruin your skin.

Don’t get me wrong skincare hacks do work if done in a proportion where you do not overuse certain products. Many beauty experts always encourage consumers to do their research before joining or doing certain skincare hacks as sometimes you might be allergic to certain products.

According to beauty hub, Cosmopolitan, DIY skincare hacks can have unhealthy disadvantages to your skin.

Here’s what beauty hubs have to say about skincare hacks you should not try:

  • Coconut oil as a face moisturiser: The above-mentioned source adds that this skincare hack is good for cooking and for your skin but using it can cause clogged pores given the amount of oils in it.
  • Sugar and salt as exfoliating scrubs: Glamour mentions that these scrubs are best used for the body and not the face, as the rough particles from sugar and salt can be abrasive to the skin causing redness.
  • Toothpaste on pimples: The oldest trick in the book turns out to not work as well as we think it should. Glamour adds that this combo is not great for the skin as it leads to more skincare issues and doesn’t solve anything.
  • Setting your makeup with hairspray: This TikTok trend where the girlies were using Glamour hair spray or any kind of hairspray as a way to set their makeup is one hack you should by all means stay away from as the hair spray is not meant for your face but your hair.
