From Deputy President to National Organiser, was the switch worth it?

The former deputy president of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Floyd Shivambu’s shift into Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK), has many internet users feeling that it was not worth it.

Back in 2013, Floyd became the second-in-command, alongside CIC Julius Malema and they formed and developed the EFF into what it is today, and while some may feel betrayed by the former deputy president’s recent move, others felt that his newly-appointed position is just not it.

As per reports by political hub, BusinessLive, Floyd was recently welcomed and announced as MK’s National Organiser, where he will be responsible for leading the party’s engagements and helping build structures, as well as draft the party’s policies.

News publication, Daily Maverick, adds that the former EFF member joins MK’s top 8 officials including; MK leader and former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, Deputy President John Hlophe, secretary-general Dr Sifiso Maseko, deputy secretary-general Nombuso Mkhize, treasurer-general Menzi Ngubane.

During the recent media briefing, Floyd said, “Some say ‘you are betraying me’ and don’t once suggest I am betraying the revolution. I will never betray the revolution, we are not in the business of pleasing each other’s egos.”

While the MK celebrated their new member, many X (formerly known as Twitter) users took a swap at Floyd’s position in the party, with some saying that he downgraded.

One user said:

Floyd Shivambu here looks like a strong independent mother of 4 who’s working 58 hours a week to put food on the table ??? pic.twitter.com/APwA10O5Hx

Another user added;

People making fun of Floyd Shivambu for “downgrading” on a job position is exactly why people lose their minds in a toxic environment for the sake of status.

Another user commented:

It’s clear that MKP don’t have the proper finalized governing document because could not draft a proper reliable governing document. @FloydShivambu is employed to cure the issue of the governing document.
