The eagerly awaited drama series is set to grace Mzansi’s screens on Sunday taking over from the captivating Code 13 after Pretoria High Court ruled in their favour.

This is after the Balobedu Royal family and council took Multichoice to court with intentions of halting the airing and premier of Queen Modjadji drama series, set to air on Mzansi Magic; arguing that the airing of the show will undermine and marginalise the Balobedu culture and its people.

In his ruling, acting judge Jacques Minnaar emphasised the failure of the applicants to pursue the case in time and proper procedures, before stating that the drama series is a work of fiction and argued that he could not comprehend how it would infringe the dignity, legacy and rights of the people of Balobedu. The judge therefore dismissed the interdict, deeming the show fictional.

Watch: SABC News took to YouTube to share the Court Interdiction proceedings.

Multichoice had told The Citizen before the court ruling that they were unfazed by all the drama surrounding the airing of the show.

“We are confident that the court will dismiss the case and that viewers will not be deprived of the opportunity of watching this epic story, inspired by the Balobedu legendary rainmaker, the first Queen Modjadji,” the broadcaster said.

Queen Modjadji series is an adaptation of a real-life story about the Rain Queen who was an inborn queen of Balobedu. The Rain Queen was believed to have had the ability to control the clouds and rainfall.

The show will include stars such as Makoma Mohale, Mudi Mudau, Putla Setlapelo, and Aubrey Mmakola to name a few; and will premier on Sunday the 14th of July.
