‘We are trying to be peaceful’ – Shebeshxt’s mom following his tragic accident

While rapper Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke is now finding himself on the road to recovery, following Saturday’s tragic car accident which resulted in the passing of his daughter – his mother has since shared how the shock has affected their family.

In an interview with the news and entertainment publication, Daily Sun, Mpho Chauke, revealed that the family is facing difficulty, but that they trying to find peace.

“We are trying to be peaceful so that we can manage everything,” said Mpho.

Touching on the latest developments and her son’s current state, she added:

“He’s recovering, but he is in pain because of the foot and the abdominal bleeding. I think the operation is taking so long because they want to see what is happening,” she said.

With the accident claiming the life of his daughter, who he was supposed to have dropped off before heading to perform at a gig, Mpho says that she and the family were afraid of telling Shebeshxt that his daughter had passed away – yet she says that he somehow knew already.

She later reflected on the life of her late granddaughter, saying:

“I named her Onthatile, meaning God loves me. She was an apple of my eye. We used to share everything. She was so intelligent, always active, and a lovely person. I’m shattered,” she said.

Meanwhile, The South African reported that Northern Academy, the school that nine-year-old Onthatile attended, has since also shared a statement extending their heartfelt condolences.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Onthatile Chuene, a cherished Grade 3 learner at our school. Onthatile passed away on 8 June 2024, and our entire Northern Academy family is deeply affected by this loss.

“During this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Onthatile’s family, friends, and all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” read the statement.
