R4K spent on groceries? Mzansi questions woman’s grocery ‘plug’

We’re all feeling the pinch now that the cost of living is skyrocketing, forcing many of us to shop smartly.

To make ends meet, South Africans are only buying the basics, whereas food such as meat and fish are considered a luxury.

One Joburg TikToker went on a grocery haul and proudly displayed everything she managed to get for R4,000.

After explaining that she got her groceries from a store in Roodepoort, online users were keen to see what she managed to bag, and if she scored a bargain.

Unpacking everything from a 5kg bag of maize meal to a 6-pack of long-life milk, Phumi even surprised her fellow TikTokers with nice-to-have items such as mince, cooldrinks, chicken and fruit.

It didn’t take long for the comments to flood in, with most online users asking, where’s the rest of the meat, and what about toiletries?

“Food is expensive, you end up spending more money and not having everything you need,” observed an online user. Another asked: “Can you share the slip pls? Wanna see their pricing.”

Phumi obliged and responded: Will try looking for it… I’m one of those who just throw the slip immediately … otherwise, I will make another video walking through the shop and showing prices so be on the lookout.”

However, it wasn’t all negative. Phumi’s “plug” was enough encouragement to get others to suggest their hacks to get more bang for their buck.

A fellow shopper shared the ultimate plug, saying the store has an outlet running a stokvel.
