Important conversations to have before death

While many of us would like to believe that we still have a long life to live, the reality is that we do not.

This is because death can come at any moment. Due to the times that we are living in where crime is prevalent in large parts of the country, there is great risks of being murdered, involved in an accident or pass on due to certain medical conditions.

This is why making certain arrangements and having important conversations is an important part in ensuring that one’s loved ones left behind are fully equipped to perform some of the arrangements and navigate through life after your passing.

Hospice Red River Valley has pointed out an interesting fact, this is that 90% of people say that talking with their loved ones about end-of-life care is important. Yet, studies found that only 27% of people have taken the step of actually doing so.

Medical publication – Cancer Research – highlights that many cultures avoid having conversations about death as they see it as being disrespectful to the person who is ill or in their old age.

Additionally, the publication adds: “Some people believe that talking about death may make the person die sooner than expected.”

However, even if you are young and healthy, having the following conversations can be useful to help your family with the arrangements should anything happen.

Here are three important chats to have prior to death:

Funeral arrangement

During the time of passing, family members are often with several emotions which are often overwhelming to that point where arguments could break lose during times of disagreements or misunderstandings pertaining to making funeral arrangements.

To avoid this, it would be wise to discuss your funeral ahead of time. Share who you want should speak at your funeral and many of your other wishes. This would be beneficial in alleviating disputes.

Will and testament

Find an executer to see that your wishes are carried out. In addition, you can also sit down the entire family in one room to discuss you wishes.

Speak from the heart

Families often go through various trials and tribulations. To a large extent they may be those who have been hurt because of words you’ve uttered. This would be a perfect time for reconciliation to take place.

It also frees family members from carry resentment or shame from the past.
