When going to a restaurant, one would expect prompt service, a welcoming atmosphere, and, of course, delicious food. Now and then, an element of surprise concerning the meal would also do. Unfortunately, one Durban-based woman received a wriggling surprise in her restaurant meal after she discovered a live maggot on her plate.

A TikToker, whose handle is @serimood, took to the app to share what she found while dining at an establishment located in the city of Durban. In the video, the social media user shows her plate of food and then zooms in on a small, moving maggot. Also in the video, @serimood noted that the sight of the maggot should be a sign to avoid opting for takeout foods and appreciate eating “what your mother cooked.”

She captioned the post, “I won’t say which takeout because she gave us a refund but unfortunately could not refund back my appetite.” However, @serimood had a change of heart and named the restaurant in her comment section when asked.

@serimood’s video garnered over 150,000 views, and hundreds of social media users gathered in her comment section to share their disgust.

One TikTok user said, “The worst is when you already ate a few bites and then see this.”

“Damn you were good to spot that, I only saw it after like five or six times watching the video,” stated another.

While another TikToker shared, “Very unlikely maggots to be in what looks like fresh biryani. It could very well be when they were packing. So they need to sterilise the whole kitchen more, especially where the maggot came from.”
