Valentine’s Day is not just for partners; it is a day to celebrate all kinds of love, including the love shared between families.
While lovers may use the day to cherish their love in romantic ways, families can do the same with a few fun activities.
Below are five ways to show love as a family this Valentine’s Day.
Share the theme of love all around your home
Decorate your home with all things love! This can be done by placing handmade paper hearts in the kitchen and living room. Care – a company that helps families at each stage of care – also suggests creating a Valentine’s Day-themed table, filled with sweet treats and gifts for the entire family.

Communicate your love through words
Although the saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words,” there is no harm in expressing actions of love through communication. Children-focused publication Kids Activities lists four ways to show love through words:
- Ban complaints: Both parents and children should use the 24 hours of Valentine’s Day to not complain.
- Say, “I love you”: Tell those near and dear to you that you love them.
- Apologise: Saying sorry can bring people together. So, if you have done something hurtful or inconsiderate, take the time to sincerely apologise.
- Tell a love story: This one is for the parents. Share with your little ones the reasons that you fell in love with your significant other. Kids Activities adds, “Even if you are separated from your child’s other parent, this is good for your kid to hear.”
Capture the moments
Put your photography skills to use and snap some pictures with your family, suggests Care. You can make the day extra special by constructing a handmade photo booth, an activity for all.
Make heart-shaped foods
Get creative with the kids in the kitchen by creating tasty Valentine’s Day-inspired heart-shaped foods such as cheesy pizzas, says Care.
