Tony Cedras, a well-known South African accordion, harmonium, keyboard, and guitar virtuoso, tragically passed away earlier this week at the age of 72.

His wife, Tania, confirmed the news to TshisaLIVE, disclosing that he succumbed to chronic emphysema on Monday morning.

“He was performing in the US and was hospitalised for six months until he returned on Thursday. Then, he passed away on Monday,” she revealed.

Cedras’s departure has left a profound void in the music industry, with many of his peers taking to social media to reminisce about the remarkable talent he had.

According to IOL, Cedras was a versatile musician known for his exceptional skills in the accordion and trumpet. He caught the attention of the late Hugh Masekela with his trumpet playing, leading to collaborations and performances alongside Masekela.

He also contributed his musical talents to a diverse array of artists including Harry Belafonte, Miriam Makeba, Henry Threadgill, Muhal Richard Abrams, Cassandra Wilson, and Tony Bird.
