Importance of having a ‘talking stage’ before dating

This pre-dating stage ensures clear communication between both parties involved to ensure they are on the same page. It’s like a trial before the real thing.

Where you see the other person’s true colours and identify the red flags or green flags in that person. This colouring system indicates whether or not you are compatible with your potential partner.

For example, depending on what kind of person you are, a green flag could be if you are respectful and romantic, and a red flag could be when someone doesn’t communicate effectively or someone is very aggressive.

Although, for some, commitment can be scary, it is always essential to learn to make your intentions clear from the start and not set high expectations so that you can learn to communicate your feelings effectively without making the other person feel bad in such a way that does not compromise your mental health and feelings.

According to marriage and family therapist, Nicole Richardson, “Many people’s dating difficulties stem from their fear of settling down, where the abundance mindset of the dating app era, in which a new companion is always available, can make it difficult to feel confident about committing.”

Spend time learning from each other and understanding things while also understanding that when trying to build a relationship, you will not always agree on things but communicate effectively to eliminate unnecessary arguments.

Focus on enjoying the moment and getting to know the person before rushing into a relationship. Starting as friends first is another way to ensure a successful talking stage.
