The anthem, released on 28 August 2026, features artists Lacole RSA and Refilwe Sediti and enters the Afro-house genre while telling the story of a hardworking city breadwinner sending word back to his rural village that he will return with money to uplift his family.

Umlayezo (which translates to ‘the message’ in isiZulu) is described as combining hypnotic Afro-house three-step rhythms with emotive vocal performances.

DJ Soso on Umlayezo

Born Lebohang Motaung, DJ Soso shared with BONA that fans of the track can expect a lot of dancing and a play on colour patterns upon the release of the music video. The date of the visual project had not been shared.

“The video is based on a dance competition. There is also going to be a lot of style expressions through outfit changes,” he explained.

With such a strong message in the lyrics, DJ Soso noted that he identified with the song because of his motivation to build a life for his family and community at large.

He added, “The song is about asking God for blessings so we can earn a living for our families. And that is my daily life. The hustle.”

Working with local talent

With Lacole RSA’s powerful tenor vocals and Refilwe’s rich alto contribution, the choice to collaborate with the local artists was an easy one.

The attorney, who specialises in copyright (music and film law), trade marks, entertainment law, commercial law, company Law and procurement law, told BONA:

“The collaboration for Umlayezo came about through my record label Ubizo Café Records getting into contact with a UK-based label, LEG Records. Both labels committed to partnering on a song and seeing how far we can go with labels from two different continents recording a song together.”

As fans await the release of the music video, Umlayezo is available to jam to on various streaming platforms.
