Due date looms for NSC results – this is how you can support your child

by Sergio Miller
How to set boundaries when you moveback in with your parents

The class of 2023 will officially be receiving their National Senior Certificate results on the 19th January.

The day marks a time that these young people enter a new phase of their lives, some will be heading to University, or College while others will be taking a gap year to focus on themselves and discover what they want to do with the rest of their lives before potentially going to study as well.

While many of them have different objectives for 2024, one thing that remains common for majority of the learners, is the mixed emotions of nerves and excitement that comes in the build up to receiving their results.

Here are 5 tips provided by Trinity House – a private Christian school in Gauteng – which you can use to encourage your child to find peace as they wait to receive their results.

Cope with stress by following these tips:

– Be kind to yourself: You deserve empathy and care, so look after yourself physically and mentally.

– Don’t hide from the anxiety: Face your negative emotions head-on and bring yourself back to the present.

– Keep busy: Engage in activities that make you feel good, such as hobbies, exercise, and socializing.

– Talk to your parents: Let them know how you’re feeling and that you need their support. They have been through this before and can help you.

– Look at the bigger picture: These results do not define you or your future. You can and will be successful regardless of the outcome. Have confidence in yourself and your abilities.
