DIY tips to keep your pots shiny

Cleaning and caring for pots does not have to be seen as a chore. With the corrects tips and tricks you can keep your pots looking nice and new no matter what type of material they are made of.

Here are some tips that can help you keep your pots clean and shiny suggested by Serious Eats:

  • Clean your pots with vinegar, baking soda, and water.
  • Use lemon juice and salt to remove stains and discoloration.
  • Polish your pots with olive oil and a soft cloth.
  • Dry your pots immediately after washing to prevent water spots.
  • Store your pots in a dry, cool place to keep them in good condition.

There are four different types of pots, and they all have a unique way of cleaning. Here are the types:

  • Stainless steel pots: According to Serious Eats– website that focuses on food, kitchen and cooking- with these pots you must avoid using steel wool and abrasive scrubbers because they might damage the surface. Wash with warm water and soap.
  • Nonstick pots: When washing these pots, you must use a sponge or cloth to protect the nonstick coating. The above-mentioned source also adds that you should dry them immediately to avoid water stains.
  • Cast iron pots: The pots are washed with hot water and a soft sponge; they require you to dry them properly to avoid rusting. They must never be washed in a dishwasher, says Serious Eats.
  • Ceramic pots: According to the above-mentioned source ceramic pots must be stored in a cool dry place after washing to prevent chips and cracks. When washing you must consider using warm water with a sponge, so you do not scratch the surface with metal utensils.
