Why you shouldn’t stop job hunting in December

With Christmas and New Year within sight, many people will mark December as a period of relaxation, leaving all things work-related at the back of their minds. However, if you are looking to switch things up regarding your employment, the end of the year should not stop you from grabbing your laptop and finding better job opportunities.

Below are a few reasons why you should not stop looking for better employment this December.

Competition is low

According to the global media company Forbes, it is a myth to believe that the last two months of the year are “terrible times” to look for a new job. Applying for a job now is in fact one of the best times to stand out as fewer people are searching for employment. “Employers aren’t getting as many applications for their open roles, so your application is more likely to grab their attention, compared to other times like January when everyone has decided to start looking again,” notes Forbes.

There is still budget left

Another myth is that companies have already exhausted its hiring budgets for the year, says Express Employment Professionals, a local, leading staffing provider. Hiring strategies and the projected needs for the year are planned well in advance by department heads. “Budgets are approved based on these projections, and it’s crucial for them to utilise their approved budget fully.” Although, it is important to note that recruitment does not always go as planned.

Possibly start your new job in January

Express Employment Professionals explains that by starting your job hunting in December, you can be fully prepared for your new role in January.
