South African rapper Tebogo Thekisho, professionally known as ProVerb, says being present in your children’s life is important.

The host and co-producer of Idols SA went on WAW What a Week podcast hosted by Thato Sikwane, popularly known as DJ Fresh.

On the podcast, the two spoke about why it is important to pay tribute to your roots and stay connected to who you are.

The two father figures also spoke about parenting priorities and the significance of being present for their children while cherishing every moment.

ProVerb said, “I do what I do because the hours allow me to still be an active dad.”

DJ Fresh asked, “Is it not a blessing when your kids have a sports day and you’re the only dad there and you realise how difficult it actually is for an average parent to shop for sports day?”

He then added that he had times where it was him and 20 moms watching their kids and he realised that those are the things they take for granted. “Your time allows you to show up for your kids in a way that our parents couldn’t.”

ProVerb also shared he once cancelled a well-paying gig just to attend his son’s athletics day. “I told him I was not coming, and I got there just when he was about to start his 100m and he lightened up.

“I remember thinking of the significance of the symbolism of that. Being present is so important, these are the memories, the milestones that you can never get back. You can never replicate,” ProVerb concluded.

A social media user commented: “Being a present parent is the goal. But it also begins with you as a person, learning good habits and taking on hobbies that you will enjoy with your kids. This has a ripple effect in all areas of your parenthood.”

Founder of Amatyma (Fathers) Ttmbha said, “WELL SAID TYMA ❤️❤️.”

Another person wrote, “You are a fantastic dad! Whatever you invest will be reflected in the future.”
