‘After the money stopped coming in, so did the love’- Thabiso Mokheti on his divorce

by Sergio Miller

Former Generations star Thabiso Mokhethi shared how the loss of his job had an emotional toll on his marriage.

The actor, who is well-known for his role as Samuel Khumalo on the SABC 1 soapie, has had a lot of ups and downs around the time he exited the show. Not only did he lose multiple family members due to death, but also the one person who vowed to stick by his side in the good times, and the bad – his wife.

In a recent clip from his appearance on Venting Podcast, the 41-year-old revealed that he always admired the relationship that he had with his wife.

The pair shared a lot of good times together to the point that he felt that she was his best friend, but says that after he lost his job and the income was no longer there, so was the respect in their relationship.

“My wife was my best friend, my kids were my friends, we did everything together but then after the money stopped coming in, so did the love.

“The respect lessened and the arguments increased, and instead of growing together, my ex-wife and I were growing apart. All these things happened after leaving Generations,” he shared.

Thabiso later added his failed marriage was one of the biggest things that made him lose his faith in God.

“We’re taught that marriage is from God. I used to believe that God was the glue that kept me and my wife together.”

Sometimes you’d think you have problems but there are people with bigger problems ?, it’s hard being a man, there are things that will always make you look useful but useless when you don’t have such! https://t.co/F0Bxp8He2j

Having dealt with the passing of both his parents and brothers as a result of car accidents and murders, he says that his life went into a downward spiral ruled by depression and drug abuse.

In August this year, the talented actor spoke more about the how this dark season later led him to stepping away from drugs and rekindle his relationship with Christ.

In one video posted earlier this year, he encouraged others to embrace the grace that God has granted them while sharing his own testimony.

“I was once a drug addict and grace set me free from that. I was once lost in my own stresses until I was depressed, but the Lord set me free from that.

“I was a person who didn’t live a life of truth and honesty and I was transformed into a nobleman.”
