Receiving an email or text that reads “we regret to inform you” after applying for a job can leave a person sad and unmotivated, especially if you have been applying with no luck for some time.

Taking time to a apply for a post means that you want to change your situation or the environment you’re in. This may be you needing a job to provide for your family, a need to get a better paying job, a need to relocate or a need to leave an unpleasant working environment.

When going through the emotions of constant job rejections that may lead to frustration and anxiety it is important to give yourself time to heal while acknowledging your emotions and finding a positive and healthy way to heal adds business and employment hub LinkedIn.

Global professional recruitment specialists Robert Walters Group suggests the following ways to handle a job rejection:

Ask for detailed feedback

It is always good to ask for feedback from the recruiter after a rejection as that it may help you understand the areas you need to work on, adds the recruitment specialists. You are also allowed to ask for a detailed assessment brief if you’ve asked and gotten a vague first response, the specialists add.

Review and reflect

Reflecting in all the steps you have taken from the research to the stages of the interview is very important. While doing so, you can ask yourself questions pertaining to the way you handled the interview, where you focused more, where you might have been negligent and anything you wish you’d done better says Robert Walters Group.

Send a thank you email

Sending a thank you email shows signs of maturity, professionalism and willingness to keep a good relationship with the company, says LinkedIn. You may share your disappointment in not getting the job as long as the tone of your email is professional and pleasant adds the employment hub. This is a chance where you could also add your appreciation of the opportunity and avail yourself for other job opportunities that may become available in future.
