While parading the Webb Ellis Cup in Gauteng yesterday, Springboks captain Siya Kolisi saved the trophy from falling to the ground after almost dropping it.
The four-time world rugby champions are currently touring the country to share their win with their fellow South Africans.
Nobody has shown more enthusiasm for the trophy than Siya. His excitement was evident while in the company of President Cyril Ramaphosa and others, so much so that it almost caused the Cup to lose its lid.
Posting a few images of the nerve-racking incident on Instagram, the Rugby World Cup account wrote, “Good save Siya ?.”

One person in the comment section wrote, “Imagine if it fell ?.”
“I was wondering when that would happen ?,” said another social media user.
While another commented, “You should join the cricket team with that save ?.”
Today, the Springboks will embark on the Cape Town leg of their trophy tour, first departing City Hall for the CBD parade and then ending on Robert Sobukwe Drive to head to Cape Town International Airport.

Their next stop will be the city of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal followed by East London in the Eastern Cape.
“The locations have been selected for population size in the first three instances and because of the Eastern Cape’s rugby significance in the fourth,” explained South African Rugby Union (also known as SA Rugby). “The route for each tour has been prepared in consultation with the respective local authorities and the South African Police Service.”
Bloemfontein, Nelson Mandela Bay and other centres will have satellite tours that will be scheduled for next year, as such tours following the Springboks’ 2019 victory were abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
