WATCH: Hilarious Boks-inspired isiXhosa names given to ‘students’

by Silindokuhle Booi

As the Springboks’ victory continues, many reactions have been going around social media platforms as a way of celebrating the World Cup win. A video of some of the players’ names changed to isiXhosa has also surfaced the internet.

South African TikTok content creator, Noxy_be, uploaded a point of view (POV) video that says, “You’re a teacher and marking the register in 2030,” giving the impression that parents will name their kids after the Boks players. She continues to rename the Springboks players in isiXhosa.

In the video, she mentions Faf de Klerk as Fafazuthando, Eben Etzebeth as Cele Ebenathi, Cheslin Kolbe as Dlamini Cheslein, Bongi Mbonambi as Gwabe Bongi, Damian de Allende as Jeje De Allende, and Pieter-Steph Du Toit as Khambule DuToitamanda.

The content creator also mentions the Springboks team captain, Siya Kolisi renamed to Hadebe Siyakolisi. She is also heard saying, “Wee captain ikhe ngakuzwa ukhuluma ngizoza la uhleli khona ke ngizokubamba ngezam izandla (If I hear you speak again I will come where you are seated and get you).” She then adds, “Why ngithanda ukubiza ngo captain, ungu Siya Kolisi wena (Why do I always call you captain, you are Siya Kolisi).”

Tiktokers enjoyed this video as they commented about how they found fly-half Handre Pollard’s name the most hilarious. One Tiktoker commented with laughing emojis, “The PollardOkuhle one kills me,” while another one added, “Pholadi’okuhle for me.”

She is also heard in the video asking the imaginary students if their parents ever told them why they were given those name. “It’s a long story, let me leave it,” she concluded.
