Since coming onto the social media scene, TikTok has been the go-to app for almost anything and everything. Among the tips and tricks posted daily are a few beauty trends that have emerged and taken the world by storm.

From nails to skin, here are a few TikTok beauty trends you should know.

Skin cycling

Lifestyle and beauty publication PureWow states that the term was first coined by dermatologist Whitney Bowe. The beauty trend involves alternating exfoliation days with recovery days in one’s daily routine to get the benefits of products without aggravating the skin barrier. “The beauty of skin cycling is that you can adjust your cycling schedule to meet your skin where it is,” says Whitney to PureWow.

Reverse makeup/underpainting

While some dispute who popularised the trend, many are crediting celebrity makeup artist Mary Phillips for the reverse makeup or underpainting technique. According to the Australian beauty publication A-Beauty, the reverse makeup technique is a process where one applies contour, highlight and blush before applying foundation. The aim is to assist in blending makeup flawlessly, while also seeing how much foundation is needed.

Glazed donut nails

Suitable for any season, there are only four steps to achieve this TikTok trend. PureWow notes that all you need is a base coat, soft white nail polish, a top coat and a chrome effect lacquer.

Faux freckles

Easy to try, this trend involves using makeup to create natural-looking freckles on the bridge of the nose and around the cheekbone area to give a sun-kissed look, explains A-Beauty.

90s Grunge makeup

Forget the bright eye makeup or red lip. A-Beauty also shares that smudged eyeliner and dark lips are making a comeback to give that 90s grunge feel.
