Johann Rupert: What we know about Africa’s richest man

According to Forbes, South African businessman Johann Rupert is now the richest man in Africa, surpassing the likes of Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote.

Johann had long been one of the wealthiest people in Africa, but he was unable to displace Aliko Dangote at the top.

The South African billionaire appeared to have invested and worked a lot in recent years. Now with a net worth of $11.7 billion and along with other family investments, Johann finally knocked Aliko out of first place.

Despite experiencing a significant decline in his net worth from 2018 to 2020, Johann made wise investments as his net worth has since increased significantly.

Johann Rupert is a billionaire businessman who is the eldest son of business tycoon Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte. He is the chairman of the Swiss-based luxury goods company Richemont and the South Africa-based company Remgro. Since April 2010, he has been the CEO of Compagnie Financiere Richemont.

Johann grew up in Stellenbosch and attended Paul Roos Gymnasium and Stellenbosch University. He dropped out of university to further pursue a career in business and was eventually awarded an honorary doctorate in Economics by Stellenbosch University.

According to The South African, his family is the source of the wealth he represents across many companies.

According to Daily Investor, Ruppert owns 46.6% of Mediclinic International and 31.7% of Distell.

He also has 80.3% of RCL Foods and 100% of Wispeco Aluminum, Siqalo Foods, Wispeco, Stelllenbosch Academy of Sports, and Stellenbosch Football Club.

Furthermore, Johann Rupert owns several other investments in companies worldwide. It’s no surprise that Johann Rupert has a lot money!
