How to fix cakey make-up

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

You may not be able to define cakey makeup, but you definitely recognize it when you see it on your face: the dreaded lines of demarcation, patchy, textured skin, pores and fine lines that appear more intense and obvious than they are.

Contrary to popular belief, full-coverage foundation isn’t always the culprit—oftentimes it’s how you apply products, the formulas you’re slathering on top of one another, and the techniques you’re employing.

Cakey makeup isn’t the result of using too many products but from using too much of a product.

Here are a few ways you can fix cakey make-up:

Prep your skin

This is one of the most important steps in applying makeup, regardless of your skin type. Make sure you don’t skip out on your skincare routine before applying any makeup to your face.

Blend, Blend, Blend

If your makeup is already caking and creasing during the day, don’t be afraid to smooth it all away with your handy foundation brush. The best way to fix caking makeup is to use a clean foundation brush, spray it with a setting spray or toning mist, and blend in the existing makeup with circular motions.

Use a damp beauty blender

You put on makeup in the morning, and by noon it’s looking dry, patchy, and creasing. You can use a damp beauty sponge to gently smooth out and refresh your makeup. You can also spritz your sponge with a hydrating mist to restore moisture to your skin and make it easier to blend your foundation to perfection.
