Orlando Pirates are on course to win the title, their first since 2012, finishing ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns on goal difference if both teams win their remaining matches — one for Sundowns and two for Pirates.

Sundowns had eaten into Pirates’ goal difference advantage earlier on Saturday evening with a 7-4 win over Siwelele FC, but the Soweto giants (Pirates) responded strongly with a 3-0 win in their match later in the evening.

Pirates hold a game in hand, as well as a superior goal difference (+44 to +37). The top two teams remain locked in a tight title race. Sundowns are leading by three points, but Pirates have a game in hand, and a superior goal difference could mean they finally win the title.

Both teams are playing this week, with Sundowns playing tomorrow against TS Galaxy and Orlando Pirates in their next match on Saturday, 16 May, at home against Durban City.
