‘Bafana Fridays’ officially kick off in support of national team

There is now a new way for South Africans to show their national pride, with Bafana Fridays officially becoming a nationwide initiative to rally support behind the Bafana Bafana. 

This is to help encourage businesses, schools, and government departments across the country to wear the national team’s colours every Friday as a visible show of unity and support. By donning the iconic green and gold, South Africans can help create excitement and momentum around the team as they prepare to play in the FIFA World Cup tournaments.

With the opening whistle set to mark the start of the World Cup today, the government called on South Africans and the business community to rally behind Bafana Bafana as they face Mexico in the opening match at 9pm on 11 June. 

The team has been training at their base camp in Pachuca, Mexico, since last week to help the players acclimatise to the altitude before their match. 

Bafana Fridays are about more than football. The aim is to foster national unity, celebrate South African identity, and inspire the players as they represent the country.

South Africans are encouraged to share photos, videos, and messages of encouragement on social media, helping to build a vibrant culture of support that extends beyond match days. 

So, everyone should join the movement, wear their colours proudly, and help make every Friday a true celebration of Bafana Bafana.
