The kids want community: Local social clubs for SA youth

Many young people in South Africa are seeking out community and using social media to foster it. They are forming and joining social clubs for various reasons, either to form meaningful connections, for networking purposes, or to acclimate to a different city.

The social clubs in question

There is a grand variety of social clubs in the country that satisfy a variety of needs, such as socialising, networking, running, or even niche interests. The clubs are scattered throughout different regions in the country and can be found on various social media platforms for details on how to join, where to meet up, and how they came to be.

Here is a list of the different clubs that will be hosting events this weekend.

Gauteng region

In Gauteng, one can access a few female-centric social clubs both in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The Homegirls Club

The Homegirls Club, a sister brand to The Homerunn Club, is a running club that will meet tonight, 13 August 2026, between 6.45pm and 650pm at Menlyn Maine for a women-only run/walk experience.

That Girl Social Club

The That Girl Social Club, an inspiring community for women in their 30s, creates meaningful connections and experiences. They will also be hosting a ‘Girl Dinner’ at La Pergola, Johannesburg, on 13 August 2026.

Socially Gathering

On the networking front, the Socially Gathering club will host a founders’ dinner for all the female business owners out there. It will be held on 15 August from 6pm to 9.30pm at Pronto Italian Restaurant in Randburg.

Western Cape region

A few events will also be held in Cape Town this weekend.

Youth Entrepreneur Club

The Youth Entrepreneur Club, a networking club for young entrepreneurs, will be hosting a coffee run and networking session on 13t August 2026, starting at 4.30pm. The meeting point will be at Montreal Sea Point, Cape Town.

Socially Gathering

Socially Gathering will also be hosting a Cape Town-based founders’ dinner on 15 August 2026, starting from 6pm to 9.30pm at Chingadas Mexican Cantina in Cape Town.

Untamed Authority

Lastly, Untamed Authority will host an event on 15 August 2026, their Cape Palooza: Where You Belong. The gathering will take place from 1pm to 10pm at The Terrace Rooftop in Salt River, Cape Town.

Honorable mentions

There are a few more social circles to mention that are not hosting this weekend but are still a great way to connect with people and worth keeping on your radar. These include The Restaurant Club [@_the_restaurant_club], where women get together and try new restaurants and experiences.

Finally, the Last Taxi Home [@thelasttaxihome], where youth come together and hang out, play board games and connect.
