Somizi, Naked DJ and Vafa to lead the show

The three personalities bring different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives to the show, combining entertainment, humour and honest discussions about modern relationships.

With careers spanning television, radio, music, comedy and live entertainment, the trio will unpack real-life relationship dilemmas and offer their perspectives on the experiences shared by South Africans.

The television adaptation aims to retain the spirit of the original radio feature while introducing a new dimension through visual storytelling and conversations with the hosts.

Somizi brings his larger-than-life personality

Somizi is one of South Africa’s most recognisable entertainment personalities, with a career spanning choreography, acting, singing, radio and television.

He began his acting career at 13, appearing in the 1987 film Scavengers, before gaining wider recognition through the 1992 musical and political film Sarafina!.

Over the years, Somizi has established himself as a prominent figure in South African entertainment, known for his outspoken personality and ability to engage audiences.

His experience in the entertainment industry and distinctive approach to conversations are expected to bring another dimension to Ask A Man as the show tackles the complexities of relationships and everyday life.

Naked DJ brings his longstanding connection to Ask A Man

Naked DJ brings a longstanding connection to the Ask A Man format, having been part of its journey on Metro FM for years.

One of Africa’s leading DJs, Naked DJ co-hosts on the commercial radio station, where the relationship feature has built a loyal following over the past decade.

Beyond radio, he is an accomplished music producer who has shared stages with international music stars, including Beyoncé, Drake, Mary J. Blige and DJ Jazzy Jeff, as well as South African DJ and producer Black Coffee.

He also hosts his own shows, Audiogasm and Saturday Sunsets.

His history with the feature offers continuity as Ask A Man transitions from radio to television, allowing audiences to reconnect with a familiar personality in a new setting.

Vafa Naraghi adds comedy and cultural perspective

Comedian Vafa completes the trio, bringing humour, cultural insight and a storytelling style rooted in everyday South African experiences.

Raised in Mahikeng by Persian parents, Vafa grew up navigating the country’s multicultural landscape and became fluent in several South African languages, including Setswana, isiXhosa and Afrikaans.

He initially pursued a career in engineering, earning a civil engineering degree from the University of Cape Town and a master’s degree in structural engineering, before deciding to follow his passion for comedy.

Since making the career change, Vafa has earned two SA Comics Choice Awards and received seven additional nominations across 2023 and 2024.

His ability to find humour in familiar situations and connect with audiences from different backgrounds is expected to contribute a fresh perspective to conversations about love, relationships and the expectations people navigate in their personal lives.

What can viewers expect from Ask A Man?

The television adaptation will explore many of the issues that have made the original Metro FM feature a popular platform for relationship discussions.

From dating dilemmas and situationships to heartbreak, marriage, family expectations and difficult questions people may be reluctant to ask openly, the show aims to create space for candid conversations.

Selected stories will be discussed by the hosts, with expert insights included to help inform and empower viewers. To protect contributors’ privacy, all featured stories will remain anonymous.

The format is designed to combine entertainment with relatable experiences, allowing viewers to hear different perspectives while reflecting on their own relationships.

SABC and Metro FM on bringing the show to television

Dichaba Phalatse, Marketing Manager: Video Entertainment at SABC, said the move to television would build on the connection the feature has established with South African audiences.

“Ask A Man has become part of South Africa’s everyday conversations, giving people a platform to share experiences, challenge perspectives and navigate the complexities of relationships,” Dichaba said.

She added that bringing the format to S3 would give these conversations a new dimension, with the three personalities contributing their own perspectives, humour and lived experiences.

Siyanda Fikelephi, Acting Business Manager at Metro FM, said the feature had developed into more than a radio segment over the years.

“For years, Metro FM has held space for honest conversations about dating, heartbreak, marriage and family. Ask A Man became more than a feature — it became a trust relationship with our audience,” Siyanda said.

Siyanda added that the television adaptation would continue giving South Africans a platform to share their stories anonymously and gain perspective.
