Simple ways to make the most of the last quarter of 2026

With the final quarter of 2026 approaching, there is still some time to make the most of the year.

Instead of waiting for January to make a fresh start, use October to December to reset your routines, reconnect with what matters and finish the year feeling more organised.

Set a few realistic goals

Cube Workspace recommends writing down what you need to and want to get done before the end of the year. You don’t need a long list of resolutions.

Choose two or three priorities for the final months of the year, whether that’s getting your finances in better shape, completing a personal project, improving your fitness or making more time for family and friends.

Breaking each goal into small weekly actions can make it easier to stay consistent.

Plan your time around key dates

According to Organise My House, planning goes a long way. It can make the busy end-of-year period considerably less stressful.

South Africa’s 2026 public holidays include the newly declared 4 November public holiday for Local Government Elections. If you have children, keep the school calendar in mind too.

Make room for simple pleasures

You don’t need an expensive holiday to enjoy the final quarter. Plan a weekend getaway, explore somewhere in your province, host a braai, spend a morning outdoors or arrange a catch-up with people you haven’t seen in a while.

Do a gentle year-end reset

Calendar.com recommends decluttering and resetting. Use November or early December to clear out unused items, review subscriptions, organise important documents and tidy your digital life. Then take a little time to reflect on what worked this year and what you would like to change.

The goal isn’t to finish 2026 perfectly. It’s to finish it intentionally — with fewer loose ends, more meaningful moments and a clearer sense of what you want from the year ahead.
