In a development that has sent shockwaves through South Africa’s law enforcement sector, a senior police officer holding the rank of Lieutenant-General has been arrested on grave criminal charges relating to sexual offences.

The high-profile arrest was executed on Monday evening by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT).
Allegations involving minors and adult victims
The 59-year-old high-ranking officer faces serious charges stemming from separate incidents. According to official police disclosures, the suspect is accused of the sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026.
Additionally, authorities have linked the officer to the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026. The officer was taken into custody in the vicinity of a Sandton establishment ahead of a scheduled initial appearance in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
SAPS leadership reaffirms commitment against gender-based violence
The South African Police Service (SAPS) leadership responded swiftly to the arrest, emphasising that rank offers no immunity from prosecution. Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane welcomed the operation and condemned the alleged conduct.
Noting that police officers are entrusted with protecting women and children and cannot themselves be implicated in behaviour that undermines this duty amid the country’s ongoing gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) crisis.
