Cape Town highlight: A Living Archive showcase

Moving to the Homecoming Centre in Cape Town on 25 October 2026 (17:40 – 19:00, R250 Day Pass), Session 3: A Living Archive explores how lived experiences, memory, and recorded histories shape our understanding of the past:

  • Lady Chief (Directed by Sarah Bromley): Introduces Nana Afoakwa Kyerewa I, the only female clan chief in Kukurantumi, Ghana, who contested centuries of traditional leadership despite local opposition.
  • Dear Sikhonkwane (Directed by Sihle Hlophe): An intimate portrait celebrating one of the first SiSwati authors to publish over 40 books, serving as a love letter to his literary legacy and mother tongue.

  • Lost Wax (Directed by Omorose Osagie): A surrealist drama blending live action and 2D animation, linking a young girl’s local disappearance with the stolen art of the Benin Kingdom.
  • The Last Dance and French Touch: Showcases stories of resistance against gentrification in 90s East London and sharp political satire set in a fictionalised diamond-rich state.
