In this week’s episode of Married at First Sight Mzansi, Laurinda and Obren’s seemingly not-so-happy marriage took a turn for the worse. Out of the four couples, only one was depicted as doing much better, and it’s not the couple one would expect.

Episode 7 of Married at First Sight Mzansi aired on Sunday, 16 August, and tensions were running high in three out of the four marital homes. Viewers highlighted the explosive argument between Laurinda and Obren.

The couple, who were struggling through a health scare on Obren’s side, began to warm up to one another, and things seemed to be looking up for the tumultuous couple. However, things swiftly took a turn.

Obren’s side

The couple seemingly argued off-camera, with Laurinda expressing her hurt feelings when Obren did not answer her. According to her, this occurred when she said goodbye before going to the shops.

Upon her return, Obren asked Laurinda a question, which she decided to ignore. This heightened underlying tensions and ignited an argument. Obren’s reaction was explosive, centring on the demand for respect in the household and expecting that any tensions that may arise in the home be de-escalated.

Laurinda’s side

Laurinda, on the other hand, expressed that her instinctual reaction to tension is backing down. In the conversation they had with the camera crew, both parties constructively shared their perspectives of each other.

Laurinda highlighted Obren’s hypocrisy in demanding respect whilst instigating disrespectful instances. Obren shared moments where he showed up for Laurinda, buying her a burger after a work event and showcasing that she didn’t eat it.

“I will not be framing a burger”

She then attempted to reassure him that, even though she hadn’t eaten the food she got and made for him, it was not a reflection of a lack of interest but rather a health issue. She further assured him that she saw and credited his efforts, jokingly stating he could even frame the burger because she does appreciate it.

The statement further triggered Obren as he retaliated with, “I will not frame a burger.”

Esethu and Prince still under fire

The show’s experts met with Esethu and Prince, since he’d moved out after an argument. The experts noted Prince’s immaturity and lack of tact regarding certain behaviours when in a marriage.

It was later revealed in a snippet of next week’s episode that Prince is actually married outside of the show.

The rest of the couples

Nompumelelo continued to draw further and further away from Hlulani, finding any and every excuse she could to dislike and not find him attractive.

Lesiba and Matsheliso seem to be in a cool and cordial space after she had accepted his apology. During a catch-up session with the other grooms, Lesiba had shown himself to be the most mature in his approach to both women and marriage, noticing the other husband’s lack of effort.
