Couples face new challenges
Last week, the couples’ journeys took another turn as they faced medical emergencies, family interventions and difficult conversations.
With each episode bringing new challenges, the pressure is mounting as the couples try to make their marriages work.
The four couples who have bravely taken a leap of faith by saying “I do” to someone they had never met before are Hlulani Ngobeni and Nompumelelo Sobopha, Lesiba Tleane and Matsheliso Maphutse, Obren Masuku and Laurinda Mabunda, and Prince Zwide Zwane and Esethu Seku.
Lesiba Tleane on taking a chance on love
In a quick-fire round of questions, Lesiba opened up about his experience on the show, from why he signed up to his first impression of his wife.
Here’s what he had to say:
What made you sign up for the show?
“I signed up for the show because I wasn’t looking in the right places. I’ve been looking, and I’ve been failing, so I came on to find someone I never thought I could find.”
What made you think the experiment was for you?
“I was open to trying something new and different from the normal.”
What was your first impression when you saw your wife at the altar?
“I was relieved they gave me someone I could experience this journey with.”
What went through your mind when you saw her for the first time?
“What blue eyes you have.”
How did you prepare yourself mentally before filming began?
“I prepared myself mentally by continuously reflecting on the matter of me getting married until it sunk in.”

Why should viewers follow your journey this season?
“People should follow my journey because I’m authentic and always true to myself.”
Adjusting to life in the spotlight
Being part of a popular reality show has also meant that Lesiba is becoming increasingly recognisable to viewers outside of their television screens.
Have people started recognising you in public? What has that been like?
“Yes, they have; it’s been cool. I’m just always nonchalant about everything.”
Lesiba’s family reacts to his decision
Taking part in a reality show that involves marrying a complete stranger was always likely to come with questions from family members.
How did your family react to you being on the show?
“The ones that knew thought I was crazy, but it was good that I was settling down. The ones that didn’t know wanted me to do it in a traditional manner.”
Lesiba Tleane’s journey continues
As the Married at First Sight Mzansi couples navigate the realities of married life, viewers will have to wait and see whether Lesiba and Matsheliso can overcome the challenges that come with the unconventional experiment.
With emotions running high and difficult conversations ahead, Lesiba’s promise to remain authentic will continue to put his journey under the spotlight.
