Internet split in two when users compared Tyla to Bonang

The internet was split in two when mzansi started comparing Bonang Matheba and Tyla Seethal.

For those who remain unaware of who these two are, the ladies are South Africans who are both recognised internationally. Bonang Matheba is an award-winning media mogul who is famously known for her businesses. She has grown to be loved by many South Africans with them proving on many occasions that they are inspired by her hard work.

Tyla, also in the entertainment industry, became the youngest South African to win a Grammy award at the age of 22.

These two women have both worked hard to be where they are, and many internet users felt that the two being compared to each other whilst they were not even in the same industry was unfair and uncalled for.

Internet users took to X (an app formerly known as Twitter) to share their thoughts, expressing that they do not understand why people would compare Bonang, who has been in the industry for a decade and worked her way up, with Tyla, who only received international fame in 2023 with her single Water.

X users said:

Why are people comparing Tyla to Bonang ? doesn’t make sense, the person in same space as Tyla is Waffles, ungenaphi Bonang

The fact that every new rising star gets compared to Bonang says a lot about how blueprint and it girl she is. Yall can celebrate new talent without looking down and disrespecting the Queen.

Nah, recency bias, Bonang did it with no hit song , no team , just a Tswana baddie with personality. She’s it https://t.co/pnm8iqQ4PJ
