Using her platform to turn pain into purpose, she officially announced the registration of the Falling Forward Foundation, a new initiative focused on child protection, intervention and long-term support for victims.
The case that shocked many
Rachel shared details of a case that deeply affected her, avoiding graphic specifics but making the message clear: “More needs to be done to protect children and hold perpetrators accountable”.
She revealed that a young girl had been experiencing sexual abuse in foster care, exposing critical gaps in South Africa’s child protection system.
Despite the challenges, she praised organisations like Mosaic and the Saartjie Baartman Centre for stepping in “with urgency and care” within 24 hours. The children involved have since been removed and placed in a safe environment with an organisation she trusts.
“They now need to start over,” Rachel said, explaining that this includes a new school, uniforms, stationery and ongoing support. She also noted the home now caring for the girls supports other children from similar situations and relies entirely on donor funding.
Turning awareness into action: The Falling Forward Foundation
Rather than just raising awareness, Rachel is driving change through the newly registered Falling Forward Foundation.
The foundation aims to provide resources for abused and vulnerable children, support intervention and recovery programs, as well as to partner with organisations already working in child welfare.

“I will share more about it soon, but right now the priority is to make sure these girls, and the organisations protecting them, have what they need,” said Rachel.
Her post struck an emotional chord online, with South Africans expressing outrage, heartbreak and a flood of support. Her call to action was direct: “If you would like to contribute, please consider donating. If you can’t give, please share. Awareness matters. Pressure matters. Change only happens when we refuse to look away.”
Many South Africans immediately pledged financial contributions to support the girls and the home. Influencers and public figures also reshared her message, broadening its reach.
The post further sparked emotional solidarity, with comments ranging from “This broke me” to “Thank you for using your voice,” with many parents saying the case made them hold their kids tighter.
The response reflects a broader pattern in Rachel’s advocacy. By launching Falling Forward Foundation, she’s aiming to fill systemic gaps and ensure victims don’t fall through the cracks.
