GETTING INTO IT

Most of my family is into music so this inspired me to get into music as well. I also want to influence people through the music I make.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

I got my first acting job on Intersexions while I was at City Varsity studying Film and Television Production. It came as a surprise as I had not planned it that way. I love acting, and am looking forward to taking on more roles. I can’t wait for people to watch the new television series that will be on SABC 1 soon.

LOVE OF MUSIC

Music is my first love and I want to share my passion with people. Currently I am working on a music project, which will be released soon. It will be a fusion of hip-hop and Afro music. I hope that people will be inspired by it and get to know Phila the music maker through it.

THE BALANCE

I don’t have much of a social life but do try to have fun with friends as much as possible; I am one hundred per cent dedicated to my craft as an actor, film maker and musician. Most of the time my work life becomes my social life.

BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP

It is a daily challenge because I have to find a way to juggle my work and my relationship. So far, the best way to make it work has been to separate Phila the personality with Phila the boyfriend. My girlfriend understands my schedule and when we are together, I focus only on our relationship.

MY ADVICE

Anyone who wants to be in the arts needs to learn to be a giving person. Acting is not about an individual; it is about the character you play, and when people see you, you represent that character. Be confident in what you do and work well with your team, when you are an actor in most cases you do not stand alone; there is a whole team working on set with you. Lastly, let your passion shine through.
