“A lot of the time, when I receive comments about me looking for someone else to accuse. I always have to remind myself how much hatred is in people and how people don’t have the necessary tools to be able to adequately separate their own personal hatred, their own ideology that they adopted from God knows where,” she said.

Nirvana expressed sadness over what she sees as an inability among South Africans to distinguish their personal beliefs and prejudices from what another person may be experiencing.

“It’s so sad because South Africa has been reduced to the most emotionally illiterate countries because of their inability to separate hatred, ideology and what another person is going through. And our own inability to say I’m actually scared of what I’m going through,” she added.

‘Denial is a weapon’

In a separate message accompanying her reflections, Nirvana spoke about the challenges people face when they speak out against harm and the hostility they may encounter from others.

“Who’s she gonna accuse now?” she wrote.

“Denial is a weapon. In this country, we fight for our dignity in a failing system, only to face hostility from those it fails to. May we find the courage to confront harm, rather than punish those who speak against it.”

She concluded her message with a heartfelt plea: “I pray you heal Azania.”

A call to confront hatred and denial

Nirvana’s comments highlight the emotional challenges that can accompany speaking out, particularly when individuals feel their experiences are being dismissed or met with hostility.

Her remarks also draw attention to the importance of separating personal prejudices from others’ experiences, encouraging people to approach difficult conversations with greater understanding.

By questioning why people respond with hatred instead of acknowledging fear and pain, the actress calls for greater emotional awareness and compassion.

Her message ultimately centres on healing, accountability and the need to create a society where people can speak about harm without automatically becoming targets of hostility.
