South Africa’s Got Talent winner Botlhale Boikanyo celebrated her mother Nokufa Boikanyo’s latest achievement: officially earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of North West.

Started with nothing but a dream
In a long caption on an Instagram post, Nonkufa recounted the journey that led her to the podium. She describes the path behind this achievement as one that started with nothing but a dream. The graduate described herself as being filled with faith and determination.
Nonkufa’s journey to her doctorate was one that, on some days, seemed uncertain. There were days she questioned herself, and she cried in silence. There were also days she was tempted to quit.
She explained that the weight of being a mother, a lecturer, a woman, a provider, and a student sometimes felt like too much.
The moments that came after her divorce, faced with the challenge of rebuilding her life from scratch while carrying the weight of loss, grief, and rejection, were moments that almost broke her.

Nokufa Boikanyo shares her testimony
Even moving through all of those dark periods and self-doubt, she shared that she could still look back and see that it was all God.
“Through it all, I held on to His promise in Philippians 1:6: That He who began a good work in me will carry it to completion. And He did,” she said.
“So this moment isn’t just about finishing a PhD. It is a testimony that God is faithful to finish what He starts.”

In another post, Nonkufa shared a video showing her daughters recording the momentous occasion, watching her receive her degree. The actress and poet, Botlhale, can be seen crying tears of joy in the clip.
Nokufa captioned the video, explaining how they were witnesses to the long nights and moments of doubt.
“Seeing them get emotional when I became Dr Mumsy reminded me that this achievement is bigger than a title.”
