Singer and actress Zolani Mahola has revealed that a film about her life is in the works, adding another major project to an already busy new chapter in her career.

According to Sowetan, an Oscar-winning South African director will help lead the project, although she did not disclose the director’s name or provide a release date.
The announcement comes as Mahola prepares to release her upcoming album, People Power, which she describes as a statement about the strength of individual and collective voices.
According to Mahola, the album draws inspiration from the role that collective voices played in South Africa’s history and the country’s struggle against apartheid. She said the project is intended to encourage people to use their voices.
New music and film projects
Mahola’s latest announcement suggests that her story is now set to reach audiences through another cinematic interpretation.
The singer is also collaborating with Grammy-winning musician Zakes Bantwini on the song Where You Are. The collaboration was created in partnership with Lesaka and centres on themes of community, connection and being seen.
Alongside the upcoming film, Mahola confirmed that her People Power album is being produced by Grammy-nominated female producer Hanna Vee. She has already released several singles from the project.

While details surrounding the biopic — including its title, cast, production company and release date — have yet to be announced, Mahola’s revelation has given fans an early glimpse of what could become a deeply personal look at her journey from Freshlyground frontperson to solo artist.
