A 41-year-old man has appeared before the Orkney Magistrate’s Court after allegedly stabbing his 60-year-old mother to death in Kanana, outside Klerksdorp.

The accused, identified as Molefi Isaac Seiphetlho, appeared in court yesterday, 10 September 2026, facing a murder charge following the death of his mother, Mmathotwana Ngo.
According to Daily Sun, the incident allegedly took place on Tuesday afternoon at a home on Letsie Street, Kanana. The publication reported that Seiphetlho allegedly demanded money from his mother before an argument broke out. She was allegedly stabbed three times and left bleeding inside the house.
The mother was reportedly discovered by one of her children, who had returned home from school. Police were called to the scene, where they found the 60-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood. She was declared dead at the scene.
Daily Sun reports that police subsequently arrested the woman’s 41-year-old son. He allegedly fled the scene on foot and was later traced to Jouberton-Tshepong Hospital.

During yesterday’s court appearance, Magistrate Benjamin Letsholo postponed the matter to 15 September 2026 for possible bail proceedings and consideration of Legal Aid representation.
The State was reportedly still determining whether the matter would fall under Schedule 5 or Schedule 6 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
The alleged killing has shocked members of the Kanana community. Community representatives, including members of Kanana Women’s Ibanomusa, have expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the death and called for justice.
Seiphetlho, the accused, remains in custody, with his case expected back in court on 15 September. As the matter is before the courts, Seiphetlho is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty.
